TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus

The dictionary is the book you pick up when you want to know what a word means. For example, did you know that the word “salient” is a noun that refers to the “outwardly projecting part of a fortification, trench system, or line of defense?” Okay, so when you do not know what a word means, you pick up a dictionary and easily find out. Or, you fire up a specialized software application – after all, using your computer is a lot easier that rummaging around the house in search of your dusty old dictionary.

A professional software package that encompasses a complete dictionary and a complex thesaurus of the English language is the Sequence Publishing-developed TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus. Downloading the application should take but a second on a high speed internet connection as it weighs in at more than 8MB. On a slow connection it might take a little while, but the wait is worth it if you want to get a program that can lookup words from almost any program.

That’s right, TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus can do that. Say you’re using Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird and you come across a word that you’re not so sure what it means. With TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus you can lookup that word without having to leave Outlook of Thunderbird, or whatever other application you’re using.

Just to put things in perspective, TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus comes with more than 145,000 references, more than 210,000 definitions, about 50,000 examples of usage, more than 70,000 phonetic transcriptions, and about 1.4 million relationships between words - you know, things like synonyms, antonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, meronyms, holonyms, and other sorts of nyms I know little about.

Here comes the best part: all the functionality provided by TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus is provided free of charge. The program is freeware, so it will not cost you a thing to use it. Speaking of which, you should know that TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus is completely portable. You can always put it on a portable storage device (like a USB stick) and take it with you.

A complete dictionary and a complex thesaurus of the English language provided free of charge – that’s what TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus has to offer.

Pros
